Clerk’s legal Self Help Center – Grand Opening

Secretary Heidi Sumner
 St. Petersburg

 Dear Secretary Sumner,

The Clerk’s Office has partnered with Chief Judge Robert J.  Morris, Jr.,  and the Community Law Program create the Clerk’s legal Self Help Centers.   A date has been scheduled for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Centers and we hope you can attend. Please see the ‘save the date’ card below.

The Centers charge pro se or self-represented civil court litigants $1 per minute* for attorney sessions.  This service is expected to be incredibly beneficial to those who have too high an income to use the pro bono legal services.  The legal system can be daunting, and it is reassuring to consult with an attorney before filing paper work to ensure everything is filled out correctly.

Attorneys may assist with civil-action legal forms (i.e. family law, landlord-tenant, small claims), and can not represent customers in court.  Attorney appointments are scheduled for a minimum of 15 minutes in 15-minute increments at the rate of $1.00 (one dollar) per minute.  Unlike free legal assistance programs, there are no income eligibility requirements to use the Centers’ services.

The two Self Help Centers are located at the Clearwater Law Library, 324 S. Ft. Harrison Ave., 727-464-5150; and the St. Petersburg Law Library, 545 First Ave. N., 727-582-7941.   A Spanish interpreter is available at the Clearwater location on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
