Parents, Guardians and Advocates,

The Pinellas County School Board is showing African Americans that they don’t care about how we feel about the education our children. As a parent with three children in this system, I am very concerned.   Yes, a few of us had the time and energy to go down and support the efforts to collaborate a school system that was fair to everyone.  And yet we are still hearing a Board Member say, “ If we allow the children in those the Fundamental Schools from that neighborhood, it will water down the schools.”    Separate has never been equal.   What are they talking about?   Yes, we have fundamental schools, in the African American neighborhoods and our children will not be allowed to attend. Who are they talking about?  Our precious, beautiful, smart, gifted and talented Black children. Neighborhood schools worked when we had teachers who lived in our neighborhoods and they cared about their community.

On Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Pinellas County School Board is going in for a final vote to approve the proposal for the “New Student Assignment.”  We feel that they need to go back and reconsider their vote and take the time necessary to come up with a better plan for all of the children in Pinellas County.  We need your help and assistance to be make sure that Superintendant Wilcox understands that we want the best for our children as well.  On Friday, December 7, 2007 and Monday, December 10, 2007, we are asking for all people who care about the future  education of our children to call and email Dr. Wilcox and the School Board Members  of Pinellas County and say, ”You need to reconsider and look at the impact again before you vote.”   Dr. Wilcox number is 727 588-6011. His email address is [email protected].  The School Board Members can be reached at  727 588-6300.  Their email address is [email protected].  As taxpayers and voters, the Superintendent and  Members are accountable to us.  Lets remind them that our tax dollars are also being used to educate our children. Numbers make the difference, so please email this to all your family and friends and ask them to join us in this cause.  Together we will build a better tomorrow for all children!

Sincerely,
