Orlando Sentinel agrees: “death penalty system is busted.”

death-penalty-petition

Many have criticized Florida’s death penalty system and now The Orlando Sentinel  validates that criticism. A new problem comes fast in the form of a bill coming up to the legislature. The Orlando Sentinel (02/06) calls State Rep. Matt Gaetz’ bill to cut the time prisoners spend on death row, reckless. Reckless because it hastens death while ignoring “glaring flaws that mock justice.” We need to stand today with the editors of the Sentinel who want state officials to use a 2006 ABA study which “identified myriad areas in which Florida’s system ‘falls short in the effort to afford the every capital defendent fair and accurate procedure.'”  For more detail on Florida’s failures, read the editorial. And to halt executions until the system has been studied and its failures fixed, sign our petition to the governor.
