Beginning January 1st 2005, changes to Florida’s Baker Act, proposed by the Florida Sheriff’s Association, were implemented. The new law allows court-ordered outpatient treatment for people with severe mental illnesses who have history of noncompliance combined with either repeated Baker Act admissions or serious violence. What does this mean? Safety for law enforcement and better treatment and safety for outpatient clients.  Visit www.bakeractreform.org to learn more.
