Guest: Ben Wilcox

According to Common Cause, during the last election cycle in Florida, not one incumbent for Congress or the State Legislature was defeated. That's because Florida's elected officials are choosing their voters instead of the voters choosing their officials. This is a result of Florida's current redistricting process. Instead of ensuring fair elections, the process has become an incumbent-protection plan. Visit Common Cause Florida, or click here to sign the petition.

Florida's Sales Tax Code Revisions PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Florida’s sales tax code hasn’t been reviewed since 1949. It may have worked well then, but needs reform to meet the needs of a growing and dynamic Florida. Special interest groups have successfully avoided tax on the sales of their products, goods, or services. Some exemption inconsistencies include taxing pool cleaning chemicals but not pool services, computers but not software, and lawnmowers but not lawn services. That means that this year, Florida is expected to collect about $19.4 billion in sales taxes, but will exempt $43.6 billion, more than twice as much. Learn how you can help change the law.
