Beginning January 1st 2005, changes to Florida’s Baker Act, proposed by the Florida Sheriff's Association, were implemented. The new law allows court-ordered outpatient treatment for people with severe mental illnesses who have history of noncompliance combined with either repeated Baker Act admissions or serious violence.
